[SOLVED] BF3 Black Screen of Death - XFX ATI Radeon 5770 - AMD Catalyst Driver

If you're like me you've just bought BF3 and you're trying to run it on your crappy XFX ATI Radeon 5770. You get in game and last about 15 minutes before the screen goes black and your pc sounds like it is about to explode. Apparently there is a AMD Catalyist 11.10 Preview driver available that addresses Radeon HD 5xxx and 6xxx cards in hopes of fixing this problem.

These drivers solve the problem, granted your card doesnt overheat.

The best fix:

  1.  Install ***THE LATEST DRIVER FROM AMD: 11.11*** (64bit) (32bit), and unplug your second monitor. Turn on Overdrive and set fan to 100% so your card does not overheat (will never go 100% in automatic).
  2.  Play BF3 for hours
  3. I am still getting occasional overheats. Probably time to invest in a better case (or gfx card...)

Thank you so much. AMD needs to get their shit together

This did not fix my black screen freezes for my 5770 :(

Ive noticed for my 5770, I have to turn on OverDrive and set fan control to 100%. My 5770 sits at 95C during gameplay, and if I do not have the fan running, it will BSOD. Let me know if this helps !

damn i have the same problem with my 5770. 95c and blue screen of dead

This driver does nothing i regards to fixing the black screen...sorry...but BF3 Alpha ran smoother than the retail....

Did you try version 3? Amd needs to release an official driver already, it has been weeks since these releases.

this game has caused me nothing but fucking issues. I cant play with out crashing every 5-6 mins...literally. The driver updates i have gotten (anything past drivers 10.7 for ATI 5850) has caused my screen to just flicker and go ape shit. i wish you could see it now as i type this.
